Over the last decade, York Racecourse has seen a steady increase in spectator numbers, resulting in several piecemeal interventions along the north end of the racecourse. Although these interventions have satisfied the spectator increase in terms of general race day activity, the current layout and appearance of the north end of the venue is now in need of major enhancement and reconfiguration in order to provide solutions to the challenges posed. The Landscape Agency were commissioned to prepare landscape proposals and support a planning application for the re-development of the North end of the racecourse. Working closely with the client team and Phelan Architects, Phase 1 of the project was granted approval in Spring 2013, with Phase 2 currently being review by local authority. Development is scheduled for Autumn 2013.
