Patrick James

Patrick founded the Landscape Agency in 1998 with a view to creating an innovative and inspirational landscape design practice. The idea for setting up the practice came whilst working at the Heritage Lottery Fund between 1994 and 1998 where Patrick was responsible for investing lottery funds in landscape related projects and assisted with the establishment of the Urban Parks Programme across the UK.

Patrick recognised the need for excellence in landscape design, landscape architecture and a number of related disciplines including arboriculture and ecology. He has focused on building a practice which can create a team with the collaborative skills needed for any project in the landscape sphere.

Personally specialising in historic landscapes, Patrick James has worked at and advised on some of the best known landscapes in the UK including Chatsworth, Lowther Castle, Hackfall, Strawberry Hill, Great Dixter as well as projects for the Duchy of Cornwall, Grosvenor Estate, Buccleuch Estates, Weston Park Foundation and the Royal Parks.

Patrick is the author of 'From Acorn to Oak Tree - a centenary history of the National Trust 1894 - 1994' published by Macmillan books in 1994. Patrick has written in the past about landscape and the environment in The Times and Country Life.
