New Windmill Farm, Waddesdon, Buckinghamshire

We were commissioned in 2008 to work with Stephen Marshall Architects to create a new setting for the Rothschild Archive, at a farmstead in the southern section of this beautiful rolling estate.

Complementing our work elsewhere on the estate (for the National Trust, and at Waddesdon), the archive project sees the creation of a cluster of buildings, in the contemporary agricultural vernacular, occupying a dramatic location looking down a long Buckinghamshire valley.

While the rolling pasture is brought up to the outer edge of the built cluster, inner courtyard provide an opportunity for more controlled environments, where sculpted forms and controlled horticulture frame views through spectacular 'windows' to the countryside beyond
