Wrest Park, Bedfordshire

English Heritage has recently secured full ownership of Wrest Park, Bedfordshire, a Grade I listed house surrounded by a Grade I listed park and garden.

The gardens were first laid out in the late 17th/early 18th century and much of the original layout still survives. Later nineteenth century gardens were also created and the surrounding park was laid out by 'Capability' Brown.

English Heritage (EH) has appointed the Landscape Agency as landscape architects to masterplan a new visitor arrival and visitor centre within the walled garden, as well as prepare a Heritage Lottery Fund Stage II application for funding to restore a number of the named gardens, paths and consider the general infrastructure. Prior to this commission, we worked on the landscape related chapters of a comprehensive Conservation Plan in association with Donald Insall Architects.

The Heritage Lottery Fund application for Stage II funding will be submitted in the Spring of 2010.
